The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim led the Board’s management team, alongside the Executive Chairman of Gezawa Local Government Area, Alhaji Mukaddas Bala Jogana, on an unscheduled supervisory visit to three Primary Health Care facilities in Gezawa and Kumbotso Local Government Areas.
The exercise, which covered Tsalle Model Primary Health Centre, Gofaro Model Primary Health Centre and Panshekara Primary Health Centre, was aimed at evaluating staff commitment, quality of healthcare services and compliance with the Board’s operational standards as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and improve service delivery across Kano State.
In a statement signed by public relations officer KSPHMB Sa’adatu Sulaiman said At Tsalle Model Primary Health Centre in Gezawa LGA, the Director General expressed serious concern over the widespread absence of staff on duty during official working hours. In response, he immediately relieved the Officer-in-Charge of the facility of his responsibilities and directed that he be redeployed to another facility as a floor staff, while his deputy was appointed to oversee the facility in an acting capacity.
Professor Salisu also ordered the immediate suspension of salaries of all absent staff pending the outcome of investigations by the Board’s Disciplinary Action Committee.
During a subsequent visit to Gofaro Model Primary Health Centre, the Director General similarly relieved the Officer-in-Charge of the facility of his duties and directed that the deputy assume leadership in an acting capacity.
Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim also issued a stern warning to the Gezawa LGA health management team, emphasizing that absenteeism, negligence and poor supervision will no longer be tolerated under the present administration.
The supervisory exercise concluded at Panshekara Primary Health Centre in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where the Director General inspected service delivery across key units of the facility. He was informed that the Ward Development Committee (WDC), in collaboration with the facility management, had procured an ultrasound scanning machine to strengthen antenatal care services and improve maternal health outcomes within the community. Impressed by the facility’s performance, teamwork and community support, Professor Salisu commended the Kumbotso LGA health team, the Officer-in-Charge, the Primary Health Care Coordinating Committee (PHCC) and the Ward Development Committee for demonstrating exemplary leadership and commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
Professor Salisu reaffirmed the Board’s unwavering commitment to building a responsive, disciplined and people-centred Primary Health Care system where excellence is recognized and misconduct is decisively addressed. He subsequently directed the Administration Department of the Board to issue a formal Letter of Commendation to the management of Panshekara Primary Health Centre, the PHCC and the Ward Development Committee in recognition of their outstanding contributions, noting that KSPHCMB will continue to reward exceptional performance while enforcing the highest standards of professionalism and accountability across all Primary Health Care facilities in Kano State.
